Plot

Tamiko and her husband want to realize that universal dream of all couples – a house of their own. To that end they hire a fashionable young architect who is great on design but weak on actual construction. Tamiko brings in her old father, Iwata, who is a traditional carpenter and the construction of the house begins. It does not, however, get very far, with cutting-edge architectural fancy on one side and solid old-fashioned traditional methods on the other. Eventually, however, with many a compromise, a kind of dwelling is constructed.
