A small storehouse at Kouuncho, a town in northern Kanto, sells Japanese-style tableware and cofee beans. Customers who love the range of products and the shop owner, 76-year-old Sugiura Sou (Fuji Sumiko), crowd the shop as always. The coffee tasting corner is popular. Many customers’ lives have been changed by a heart-melting cup of coffee which is served at the shop. But even Sou herself has her own scars that can never be healed. At one time, a suspicious-looking man who had been lurking around the shop approaches a regular customer, Terada (Yoshizawa Hisashi). He is Otake (Songha), a former classmate and baseball club buddy, who absconded with a large sum of money borrowed from the people around him 15 years ago, and was labelled a bad guy. Otake has come to return money to Terada. At first, Terada rejects Otake who betrayed his friends, and is suspicious of the source of money when he hears that Otake had been questioned by the police in connection with a robbery that resulted in injuries. However, he starts to realise that Otake had a compelling reason and did not borrow the money for himself because of Sou. An enigmatic customer, Matsui (Hashizume Isao), who has been lingering around the shop’s coffee tasting corner recently, is involved in another mystery. He is somehow well-informed of all sorts of information regarding the town.
